Police: Teen in Critical Condition After Being Struck by SUV

A 14-year-old boy that was struck by a sport utility vehicle in Valley Stream Tuesday night is listed in critical condition, New York State police said.

The teen was walking near the entrance ramp to the eastbound Southern State Parkway when he was struck by a Ford Escape attempting to enter the parkway from the northbound lanes, police said. The accident occurred at 8:13 p.m. on Central Avenue, police said.

The operator of the Ford, Victoria Ruane, 53, was charged with traffic offenses, including operating with a suspended license and no insurance, police said.

The victim, whose name has not been released, was taken to Nassau University Medical Center and was treated for "severe head trauma and multiple broken bones," police said. He was later transferred to North Shore LIJ Hospital in New Hyde Park and remains in critical condition, according to police.

The accident is currently under investigation, and police are asking any witnesses to this accident to contact the State Police at 631.756.3300.  All calls will remain confidential.
