Police: WH Man Pulls Shotgun on Friends at Dinner

Two residents arrested after incident at West Hempstead home.

A dinner party turned violent in West Hempstead Saturday night, police said, ending with the arrests of two residents at their Grant Avenue home.

According to Nassau County detectives, around 5:50 p.m., Albert Hendrickson, 52, and his wife, Darlene Schunk-Hendrickson, 50, both of West Hempstead, invited two of their friends to dinner at their home. However, during the dinner, a verbal argument ensued between Schunk-Hendrickson and a 47-year-old female victim.

The argument became physical, police said, when Schunk-Hendrickson tried to take a gold-colored necklace, which also held a ring, from the female victim’s neck. The victim then placed the necklace around her 42-year-old husband's neck so it could not be taken by Schunk-Hendrickson.

Police say that Schunk-Hendrickson persisted and eventually ripped the necklace from the male victim's neck, but was only able to keep the ring.

After the victims demanded their ring back, Albert Hendrickson pulled out a shotgun and pointed a shotgun at the couple, who were able to flee the home and call 911, police said.

Upon police arrival, the defendants refused to exit the home which lead to additional police assistance and the Nassau County Hostage Negotiation Team, police said. The situation ended with the Hendricksons being taken into custody just before midnight.

The defendants are being charged with two counts of robbery in the first degree, two counts of robbery in the second degree and criminal use of a firearm in the first degree.

Schunk-Hendrickson is additionally charged with criminal contempt in the second degree and resisting arrest. Both defendants will be arraigned at First District Court in Hempstead on Monday.

This situation got me very upset. They had too many police officers on the scene. Most of them were just having casual conversations practically in front of my house. What upset me is I live on the very end of the block far from where the trouble was and they would to let my teenage daughter come home . I left my house while on cordless phone talking to her and could see my daughter behind the yellow tape. I approached and officer and they told me no. 2 hours later, 10pm, the answer was still no and i was told she was old enough. Yet they escorted my other neighbor home. I had to call a friend who lives in elmont to come get her so she could spend the night there. Way too many police officers, cars, trucks, ambulances for that situation. They were all just comversating.

and how many years in the field of law enforcement do you have ma'am??? Obvioulsly zero. You were inconvenienced for a relatively short time. Instead of blaming the police for everything , blame your criminal neighbors. Idiot.

Play nicely people. It seems that the first instinct of many is to complain about how things affect them personally. The show of friendship, community, and commraderie over the past two weeks should be a learning experience for all. Patience!

The cops are at that house all the time. I didn't mind the inconvenience that much, just the different treatment. It hurt that a gentlemen was allowed to go home but my teenage daughter wasn't.

I think the lady, Natalie has a very legitimate point here she was commenting that her teenage daughter could not come home. She told the police thats my daughter up the block a police man could have escorted her . Any parent would want their child home.

That’s very nice that school districts that have the highest school taxes and costs, areRead More receiving additional money. The problem is that our state is in dire financial trouble and we can’t afford it. Upstate NY is a distressed disaster. How much more taxes are we going to pay?. Hear those feet marching out of state. Try fighting for drilling so we have jobs and revenue.

.......there they go again whitewashing a dilemma they don't want to touch......unconscionableRead More salaries and pensions paid by the taxpayer for incompetence? Not to mention 13 week vacations as well as numerous 1/2 days and weather shortened days. A $50000 band aid we end up paying indirectly anyway only increases taxes further down the road. They are either that stupid or they think we are!
