Rosman Elected to West Hempstead Fire Commission

Avi Rosman defeats incumbent Sue Scognamiglio.

Voters elected Avi Rosman to the West Hempstead Fire Commission Tuesday night.

Rosman, 35, a father of two who works as a financial service adviser and volunteers as an EMT with the West Hempstead Fire Department, defeated incumbent Sue Scognamiglio, who was running for her fouth term.

He earned 282 votes compared to Scognamiglio's 206. (There were also 74 affidavit ballots cast that were not counted, but both sides agreed the majority would have gone in Rosman's favor.)

After the results were revealed, Rosman thanked his supporters personally and on his Facebook page.

"I am truly humbled by the support I received in this venture," he wrote. "I want to extend my gratitude to Commissioner Susan Scognamiglio for her dedicated service to the West Hempstead Fire District.  I look forward to working together with the board, the chiefs, the officers, the members of the fire department, and the community to ensure that the West Hempstead Fire Department continues to be an indispensible asset for all residents."

Fred "Sandy" Senti, who ran unopposed, was also re-elected to the Lakeview Fire Commission Tuesday night. (Look for our interview with him tomorrow.)
