Sentencing For West Hempstead Man Postponed

The case of Charles Eid, who pled guilty to vehicular assault, adjourned to Aug. 12.

Charles Eid, the West Hempstead man who pled guilty earlier this year to Vehicular Assault, was expected to be sentenced Tuesday, but his case has been adjourned to next month.

According to Assistant District Attorney Brendan Ahern, Eid's sentencing has been moved to Aug. 12.

It was almost exactly one year ago that Eid was arrested by Nassau County Police after causing a crash that critically injured a pedestrian in Franklin Square. Eid, who was 24 at the time of the accident, was driving down Hempstead Turnpike in his Jeep on the morning of July 27, 2010, when he struck a SUV that was stopped at a red light.

The force of the impact pushed the vehicle into the crosswalk, hitting a 50-year-old man. The pedestrian suffered severe head trauma.

After an investigation, police learned that Eid had been driving under the influence of drugs and charged him with second-degree vehicular assault, a Class E felony. He was also charged with two counts of operating a motor vehicle under the influence of drugs.

Eid pled guilty to the charges on March 30. This is the third time his sentencing has been postponed.
