Study: Two Pedestrians Killed in Lynbrook Since 2008

A new study lists Merrick Road and Sunrise Highway among the county's most dangerous roads.

A new study revealing the most dangerous roads in Nassau County showed that two pedestrian deaths have occurred in Lynbrook since 2008. 

According to the study, a 61-year-old man was killed on Sunrise Highway on Sept. 29, 2009 and a 52-year-old female was killed on Dec. 24, 2009 on Merrick Road.    

Hempstead Turnpike (Route 24), Sunrise Highway (Route 27) and Merrick Road were all atop the Tri-State Transportation Campaign (TSTC) list of the in Nassau County.

Fifteen deaths were reported on Route 24 (a.k.a.Hempstead Turnpike, Fulton Avenue and Conklin Street.) Seven were reported on Sunrise Highway and six were reported on Merrick Road, according to the study. 

In Lynbrook, a was struck on Peninsula Boulevard on and rushed to the hospital. Two drivers were also injured in a crash near the on Ocean Avenue last month. 

In November, Lynbrook residents cited the intersections of Merrick Road and Ocean Avenue and Atlantic Avenue and Union Avenue among the most .
