An SUV slammed into a utility pole on the Malverne-Lynbrook border Friday, knocking out power to several homes in the area.
The driver of the vehicle lost control on Lakeview Avenue near Devon Street in the early afternoon and then smashed into the pole, causing it to crack in half. He suffered minor injuries .
Several homes were left without power until emergency power crews arrived at the scene. A section of Lakeview Avenue, from Devon Street to York Street was shut down for several hours after the crash though as LIPA continued to work at the scene. The closure forced rush hour traffic to be diverted onto the side streets.
