Teen Leads Police On Pursuit Through W. Hempstead

A 16-year-old male is arrested for criminal mischief in Lakeview.

A teenage boy led Nassau County Police on a pursuit that lasted for nearly one mile as he allegedly traversed through backyards and a creek in West Hempstead Tuesday afternoon.

Cops first began chasing the 16-year-old near the intersection of Coventry Road and Woodfield Road around 3:45 p.m. Reports said the young man had been accused of trespassing onto properties in the area and allegedly breaking into cars.

A police helicopter spotted him in a nearby creek about 10 minutes later and soon after cops caught up with him on Melvin Avenue in Lakeview, where he was brought into custody.

A spokeswoman for the Nassau County Police's Fifth Precinct did not reveal the boy's name but did say he has been charged with Criminal Trespassing and could face other charges.
