Tell Us: Rescued Pit Bull Dogs

Would you adopt one?

Thirteen rescued pit bull dogs now have refuge at the Town of North Hempstead Animal Shelter in Port Washington after Nassau County Police broke up a dog-fighting ring in New Cassel on Friday.

“People have the wrong idea of some of the fighting dogs,” said Susan Hassett, director of the shelter. “They’re trained to fight dogs, but they’re perfectly fine with people. Dogs trust us.”

Right now the dogs are currently considered evidence by the Nassau County District Attorney, while the case is under investigation. At the shelter, they are getting plenty of TLC, Hassett added. And when the dogs are released, “we will evaluate each one of them and do the best we can to have them adopted,” she said. “There are quite a few dogs here that are under six months, so their prospects are great."

Which leads to the question: would you adopt one of these dogs, knowing what they've been through?

So many people named Hassett are bad. I've never net a person named Hassett, but media stories throughout the country show many have been arrested. All Hassetts should be locked up to protect the public.

I totally agree, not only are Hassets bad people, but people named Sean are known to ALL be serial killers and cannot be rehabilitated,,,,I agree they should all be given life or worse, lethal injection, NO questions NO defense,,,,

Totally agree, Pit Bulls are the most decorated breed in American History, they were the symbol of America for decades. They are by far the most loyal, loving and dedicated breed I have ever known. What other breed do you know of that loves their owners unconditionally to go to their own death from their owners command....
