Two-Car Accident Temporarily Closes Broadway

One car hit telephone pole; two injuries reported.

A stretch of Broadway in Lynbrook was temporarily closed off after a two-car accident in which one vehicle hit a telephone pole.

Lynbrook police said they received a call about the accident, which occurred at Broadway and Olive Place in Lynbrook, at about 6:13 p.m. Sunday. Police closed off Broadway from Scranton Avenue to Union Place for about one hour while they filed accident reports and had the two cars towed from the scene.

Two injuries were reported — one person was transported to South Nassau Communities Hospital, the other refused medical attention.

One of the vehicles struck a telephone pole at its base, nearly ripping the pole out of the ground. A Long Island Power Authority (LIPA) worker on the scene said the pole would have to be removed.
