Update: Body Found in Car Is That of Jasmine Joseph

UPDATE: The Nassau County Homicide Squad reports that the body found in a car in Syosset early Tuesday morning is that of missing person Jasmine Joseph

Positive identification was made by the family on Tuesday at 1:15 p.m., police said. The cause of death appeared to be suicide, police said.

At a press conference Tuesday, Insp. Kenneth Lack said, "She had inhaled a noxious substance."

Joseph, of Syosset, was reported missing on Feb. 24.

Earlier this morning, Nassau police located the car.

The car, a gray Nissan, was found in Syosset Plaza near Jericho Turnpike at about 1 a.m. Tuesday, News 12 reported. The keys were found inside the vehicle.

Joseph was last known to be in the vicinity of 37 Stuart Drive in Syosset on Monday, Feb. 24.

Once police determined that the license plates matched that of Joseph’s vehicle, they recovered the car, News 12 said.

When Joseph was originally reported missing, her family had assumed she was heading to NYIT Old Westbury for class, but the college later reported that she had not been a student there since May 2013.

Hearsay. The rumor mill. The family must be devastated and don't need conjecture by people that do not live within the walls of the girl's home who have "heard" things. Think about what it would be like for you if someone just made a negative assumption about you without knowing the real truth, how hurtful it would be. Let's pray for the family and the poor girl instead of gossiping.

May Jasmine's soul rest in peace!

The news is making her seem as if she was "living a lie", and all I was trying to say is that skipping school and not telling your parents is COMPLETELY normal. I myself was skipping college classes as a 20 year old and I didn't want my parents to know about it. This doesn't mean that she was a deceitful person. May she rest in peace.

This is so sad. I had hoped they would find her staying with someone her family didn't know, and she would be returned safely home. The parking lot at that location might not be empty at night because there is a car rental business there, I believe. Still, I should think the police would wait to state a cause of death until there was a medical examiner's determination. Rest in peace.
