VIDEO: Local Firefighters Honor 9/11 Heroes at Tourney

A decade after volunteer firefighter Robert DeAngelis perished in the World Trade Center on 9/11, his fellow brothers kept his memory very much alive this weekend.

In additon to attending funeral masses and , and a hosting a in his honor, local firefighters also honored his legacy by competing in an old-fashioned drill tournament this Saturday.

Although the tournament was named after Keith Fairben, a Floral Park firefighter who died on 9/11, the participants also took time to reflect on the loss of DeAngelis and other heroes who sacrificed their lives to help others.

DeAngelis had served as a West Hempstead Fire Commissioner and a former chief of the Lakeview Volunteer Fire Department.

Firefighters from Lakeview, Malverne and West Hempstead competed in the tournament, with West Hempstead coming out the overall winner.
