West Hempstead Firefighters Rescue Driver Trapped in Car

Two vehicles crash at the intersection of Hempstead Avenue and Roosevelt Boulevard.

The crash occurred around 11 a.m. when one of the vehicles reportedly made a right turn off of Roosevelt Boulevard, possibly while the traffic light was still red, and smashed into the other car, which had been travelling south on Hempstead Avenue.

The firefighters, including Assistant Chief Jason LaCombe, had to rescue the male driver from the SUV and he was treated for head and neck injuries by Nassau County EMS. No serious injuries were reported though. Nassau County Police also responded to the scene and temporarily shut down traffic on Hempstead Avenue, directing cars onto the side-streets.

Police would not comment further on the accident as it is under investigation.
