Several fire departments were called in to extinguish a Uniondale fire just after 3:30 p.m. Wednesday.
According to detectives, an 18-year-old was at his residence on Midland Street when the home filled up with smoke. He was able to escape and call 911.
A 37-year-old man was in the basement of the home, and when he went to come upstairs, he saw the fire and went back down. An officer entered the home and rescued the victim from harm, as no injuries were reported.
Firefighters from Uniondale, Hempstead, West Hempstead, North Bellmore, East Meadow, Roosevelt, and Lakeview Fire Departments worked to extinguish the fire.
"The cause of the fire has been deemed non suspicious and the investigation is ongoing," police said.
