An 88-year-old woman who was crossing a street in Hempstead Monday morning was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver, Nassau County Police said.
The woman was struck by the vehicle in the southbound lanes of Peninsula Boulevard at Fulton Avenue at 6:38 a.m., police said. She was transported to Mercy Hospital for head trauma and was pronounced dead at 7 a.m., police said.
The identification of the victim is being withheld pending notification to family members, according to police.
