Adoptable Animal of the Week: Meet Bo

This friendly buddy is eager to find his forever home.

Name: Bo

Case Number: #8460

My name is Bo and I am a playful, friendly dude. I'm staying at the Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter now but am hopeful I will find my forever home soon.

I love just about everyone I meet. I love to share deep meaningful glances with my special people. I like playing with people and simply love toys, but I can get over-excited; I’ll need to learn some impulse control in order to play politely. I tend to get excited and mouthy by some handling, especially of my snout).

I will readily share my resources with people.I am interested in making the acquaintance of even the most unusual strangers -- those wearing hoods or limping, for instance -- and, if given a little time (and a treat!), I will make friends with them.

I tend to be stiff around other dogs. While I can tolerate them at a distance, I do not like them in my face or sniffing me up. I am definitely a people-centric pooch.

I don't know any basic commands, but I'm eager to learn for a taste of my favorite treats! I definitely need to learn to walk nicely on leash and not to be jumpy, though I’m only a mild offender. I tend to be a little shy of novel objects in a way that suggests that I may have been hit in the past. Training may help build my confidence and will help us forge a relationship.

If you are interested in adopting Bo, please contact the Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter at (516) 785-5220 or email animalinfo@tohmail.org for more information.

The shelter is located at 3320 Beltagh Avenue in Wantagh. Adoption hours are Monday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. All adopted pets will be spayed or neutered, will receive all required innoculations and will be microchipped, all free of charge.

The Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter is working hard to assist the many dogs and cats that have entered the shelter as a result of their owners being displaced in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy. As part of the shelter's Orphans of the Storm Pet Adoption program, all adoption fees are being waived from December 1, 2012 to January 19, 2013.
