Adoptable Animal of the Week: Meet Venus

Can you give this fun-loving gal a home?

Name: Venus

Case Number: #3601

My name is Venus and I am a sweet, fun-loving little gal!

I love everyone, even the most unusual of strangers, and relish being petted and massaged. In fact, petting and massage calm me in this topsy-turvy world of the shelter.

I can be very playful, love toys, and will give them up easily for a tasty treat. I even get vocal and growl when I play, though it’s all just talk.

I am a little uncomfortable with some handling (paws, muzzle) but will readily share my resources with people.

I am very interested in making the acquaintance of other dogs, but I’m a rude, high-energy player so I hope you’ll find me appropriate playmates who will play like I do and won’t take offense. I should really learn some manners and impulse control when around other dogs.

I don't know any basic commands but I'm eager to learn for a taste of my favorite treats! I definitely need to learn is to walk nicely on leash and not to be jumpy or mouthy.

I would be best in a dog-experienced home of teens and up with guardians who will provide training and structure for me and who can help build my confidence through love and understanding.

If you are interested in adopting Venus, please contact the Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter at (516) 785-5220 or stop by the shelter, which is located at 3320 Beltagh Avenue in Wantagh. Adoption hours are Monday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. (Call for holiday schedule.)

All adopted pets will be spayed or neutered, will receive all required innoculations and will be microchipped, all free of charge. The Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter is working hard to assist the many dogs and cats that have entered the shelter as a result of their owners being displaced in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy. As part of the shelter's Orphans of the Storm Pet Adoption program, all adoption fees are being waived from December 1, 2012 to January 19, 2013.
