Cancellations and Closures Due to Blizzard Nemo

A rundown of how the storm is impacting events, businesses, schools and organizations in Malverne, Lynbrook and West Hempstead.

With a blizzard warning issued for the area, activities planned for Friday afternoon and this weekend are already being cancelled.

Is school is letting out early? After-school or library activities cancelled? Closing your shop for the day? Changing the time of an exercise class offered?

Use the comments section below to tell us how the storm is impacting your events, activities or store hours, and we'll add it to this running list of local cancellations and closures.

  • West Hempstead School District - All after-school, evening and weekend activities cancelled.
  • Lynbrook School District - All after-school activities scheduled for Friday, Feb. 8, and all activities scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 9, are cancelled.
  • Lynbrook Recreation Department - Closing at 4:30 p.m. Friday. All programs for Saturday, Feb. 9, are cancelled. 
  • Nassau County Parks - Closed to the public starting Friday, Feb. 8, at 5 p.m. until Sunday, when they will re-open for normal operating hours. Some facilities may experience delayed openings. 
  • Town of Hempstead ANCHOR Program - Saturday activities cancelled.
  • Town of Hempstead Parks Department - All day, evening classes and activities cancelled.
  • Town of Hempstead Senior Enrichment - All activities cancelled.

The problem is that our state is in dire financial trouble and we can’t afford it. Upstate NY is a distressed disaster. How much more taxes are we going to pay?. Hear those feet marching out of state. Try fighting for drilling so we have jobs and revenue.

Not to mention 13 week vacations as well as numerous 1/2 days and weather shortened days. A $50000 band aid we end up paying indirectly anyway only increases taxes further down the road. They are either that stupid or they think we are!
