With a fierce storm set to batter Long Island, snow was definitely on New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo's mind at Thursday's second-term inauguration for Nassau County Executive Edward Mangano.

"We have a double-header today when it comes to Mother Nature," Cuomo said. "We have the storm that is coming up the coast which will affect downstate New York and we have a storm coming from the west that will affect upstate New York."

Parts of Long Island are projected to get 8-10 inches of snow, according to the National Weather Service. Wind gusts of up to 40 mph are also expected at the height of the storm, which will also bring along extreme cold temperatures that could linger and stay below freezing until Sunday. Friday's high isn't expected to climb out of the teens.

"Mother Nature's starting the new year by showing us who's really in charge," Cuomo said. "Forget the senators, County Executive and the Governor. Mother Nature really runs the show."
