Gun Buy Back This Weekend in Nassau

Anonymous program taking place Saturday.

Nassau County is hosting a gun buyback program this weekend.

Officials will be at Grace Cathedral at 944 Jerusalem Avenue in Uniondale Saturday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Rifles can be sold for $100 cash, handguns for $200 cash, and assault rifles for $400 cash.

All guns must be operable. No licensed guns, BB guns, air pistols, or replicas will be accepted.

Authorities remind anyone participating that guns must be transported in the trunk of a car. When turning them in, guns must be unloaded and put in a plastic or paper bag or in a shoe box.

All guns may be turned in anonymously.

NYC once tried a "Gun Buy Back" effort about a decade ago. Turns out that people were going to Florida and other free states to buy cheap handguns, bringing them back to NYC and making a handsome profit. Well if something doesn't work, why not do it again? Wonder what will happen this time.

Gun collectors regularly go to these buy back programs and approach people on line and offer more cash than the program does to the sellers. It is a great program for collectors. Thanks Nassau!

I recall when Rice ran a "Gun Buyback Program" in Long Beach's North Park. They were paying something like $20 for toy guns. The enterprising kids were cleaning out Gordon's of $1.50 toy guns and trading them in. By the way, how can anyone buy "back" something they never owned? Thin about that one.

Chris, this is no longer the case. Under the SAFE Act, private party sales are no longer legal. So, the folks that may have gotten a higher price from a law abiding firearms owner, will now have to settle for less than the firearm is worth and be paid with tax dollars from the gun buy back. Yet, another Right the Safe Act courtesy of Cuomo has cost you, remember that in Nov.
