Horan Appointed to $98K Position with Hempstead Town

Pat Horan is now the town's engineering helper.

Pat Horan, the former director of the Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter, has been appointed to a new position within the town.

The town confirmed Friday with Patch that Horan's new title is engineering helper and her salary will be $97,959.

Horan was reassigned to the Department of General Services in March of 2011 after a nearly 20-year-old YouTube video surfaced depicting employees making obscene gestures, handling a kitten and saying “kill the kitty."

At the time of her reassignment, Horan was earning $92,491 in her position. The new salary is a monetary increase of more than 5 percent.

According to Newsday [paid link]:

The town board approved a resolution Tuesday to formally make Horan an engineering helper, a noncompetitive civil service post that doesn't require an exam. The appointment was retroactive to May 23.

Wow, how did I get dragged into this? Chris, if you don't want to be called an informed person, that's ok with everyone here. By your comments, you have proved to everyone that you are just that, uninformed, or maybe what they call kennel blind. Lorraine, I'm actually a very nice guy, just ask my mom.
EJ48 June 14, 2012 at 12:35 PM
"Unless you get out of Facebook [Patch] and into someone's face you really have not acted".. Tom Freidman, Sunday NYT. P.S. I'm as guilty as the rest of the posters.
Lorraine DeVita June 14, 2012 at 01:16 PM
Eric, your assuming that "voicing on "patch" is the only recourse some are taking-- some ARE taking action ....verifying facts and doing research is key before ANY action is taken.. As my father used to say " before you take aim and pull the trigger make sure you load the gun with bullets. pointing an empty gun is usless ...
EJ48 June 14, 2012 at 01:48 PM
I assume nothing. Just highlighting the words of a journalist I admire. Hope U verify enough facts to bring them all low. Godspeed!

Still waiting for a response from Hudes regarding my e-mail to him requesting an explanation for this incompetent individual's new job. I guess he's only useful if I need a new recycling bin. Great work Hudes!
Mary Smithstein June 14, 2012 at 11:21 PM
Chris: I was raised to respect other peoples rights too express their opinions regardless whether I agree or I do not. My only complaint with you is your first post response it was uncalled for. If you do not agree I am fine with that but I do not appreciate the obnoxiousness of your post. To the others I thank you for defending myself and Lala. With that out of the way I have emailed Councilman Hudes and I too am still waiting for a response. Lol I may call Kate Murry's hotline tomorrow.
Robert Demarco June 14, 2012 at 11:28 PM
You would get a reply if you could somehow arrange a photo op for him. Hudes gets his mug in every local newspaper for the most mundane reasons. He has his own photographer, no doubt paid for by TOH, which means you and me. Do not expect an answer, because this bunch does not answer difficult questions. They will wait it out.
Lala June 15, 2012 at 01:38 AM
Mary and Frank: If you could let us know what the outcome of your attempts to communicate with Hudes and co. is that would be awesome. Robert: Sadly, you are probably spot on. Our best avenue may be to get the ear of a hungry reporter. Maybe they can do an expose. The Long Island Press is good for turning over rocks. Maybe if enough of us contact them they'll take it further. It certainly doesn't hurt. Hey! I know! How about contacting Arnold Diaz. Does he still do the "Shame On You" segment?! That would be perfect.

Frank, there is no penalty for not adhering to FOIL requests. The person must take the agency to court to get a judgement to force the agency to comply.
Chris Wendt June 15, 2012 at 02:17 AM
Mary, calling Kate Murray...please go ahead and make that call.
Lorraine DeVita June 15, 2012 at 11:24 AM
LMAO- calling Ms Murray with ANY hope of talking to the photo op maven directly is like trying to call the pope. She doesnt talk to the little people .. her STAFF will take your comment/concern "under advisement" and either re direct you to ANOTHER individual or assure you Ms murray will be comptemplaing your thoughts...much as she does her navel.... good luck!
Mary Smithstein June 15, 2012 at 12:04 PM
Chris/Lorraine: I never thought that I would be speaking with Kate Murray directly, My goal is to see if they will direct me to speak with someone there about Pat Horans appointment. My guess they may direct me to the Town Attorney but who knows. I doesn't hurt too try does it,
Lorraine DeVita June 15, 2012 at 01:58 PM
Mary S., I wasnt commenting on your statement , i was SARCASTICALY commenting on Chris urging you to call her.. ANYONE who even THINKS Ms Murray will grace the peons with speaking to them is delusional.which from your comments i can clearly see you are not.. For amusement I feel like having a life size stand up one dimensionial replica of Ms Murray made , and placing it around the TOH then compiling a photo essay book.similiar in concept to WHERES WALDO . Would probably be a hilarious best Seller. Might even include the ENTIRE cast of Characters from the TOH..complete with bubble captions..
Lorraine DeVita June 15, 2012 at 02:14 PM
I would also make it available for b'day parties, funerals, celebrations, lawn mowing, window washing, taking the garbage out, divorces, weddings , store openings, dedications, and assorted other kodak moments that anyone might feel the need to be extraordinarily memorable with her presence.
Chris Wendt June 15, 2012 at 02:41 PM
@ Mary/Lorraine Maray is correct. You do not call Kate Murray's Hotline with the intention of speaking with Kate Murray, any more than you would call 3-1-1 thinking you will be speaking with Mike Blumberg. When you call the Hotline, several things happen: 1. the nature and subject of your call are noted for the record and statistical purposes. 2. the level of urgency/immediacy is determined. 3. your issue will be directed to an appropriate Town department for review & handling, possibly a response. Every opportunity lost to register a complaint or grievance on the Hotline is a moment available for some town official to contemplate anything other than your issue. For those who emailed Gary Hudes, my advice would be to pick up the phone and call his office, instead. Ask the name of the person who answers the phone.
Mary Smithstein June 15, 2012 at 06:34 PM
Lol sorry for being defensive. This board can get nasty quick so I jumped when I shouldn't have. As for calling Kate Murray lol I was directed too speak with Joe Ra. I left a message which I am certain he will get back to me soon LMAO.
Mary Smithstein June 15, 2012 at 06:39 PM
Chris: Do you think Gary Hudes would call one of us back? I am not being sarcastic if there is a chance I will call him. Also I spoke with my neighbor who works at the TOH she explained the reason Pat Horan is stll there is because she was protected by the CSEA Union. Who knows if there is any truth too that I just thought I would let you know.
Lala June 15, 2012 at 06:39 PM
Lorraine: ahahahah! "Where's Kate"?! Well her name is always in the LARGEST FONT on every conceivable sign and publication. So, too, is her annoying FACE. I'd like to place the replica in some pretty interesting places, actually. Like in a DUMPSTER or in the back of a sanitation truck! LOLOL!!
Mary Smithstein June 15, 2012 at 06:41 PM
Lorraine: Just for the mere amusement I would rent one out. LOL
Lala June 15, 2012 at 06:42 PM
Since "Engineering Assistant" sounds like a fabricated title, I don't think CSEA can help her. Even if it is a competitive or union title, the CSEA can't protect everyone. Look how many CSEA employees were laid off from Nassau County. INNOCENT people. Not some cat-torturing, uneducated political hack that plays the residence game.
Mary Smithstein June 15, 2012 at 06:51 PM
Lala: I thought the same thing about the County. All of those people laid off & the Union couldnt do a thing for any of them. I smell a coverup. SHOCKING!!!
Lala June 15, 2012 at 07:39 PM
Mary: SHOCKING, indeed! {{not really!!}}
Felix Procacci January 07, 2014 at 02:52 PM
Jan 6, 2014. Pat Horan is getting another wage increase to $100,439. Kate Murray will approving this increase at Town Hall tonight at 7pm. BTW : Despite the fact the Town has been put on negative credit watch, and Kate Murray's claims the Town does not have the money to repair damage done by Hurricane Sandy, the Town has plenty of money to give wage increases to people who are already overpaid for the work they do.
Laurie Lat January 07, 2014 at 03:10 PM
work they do? this woman is an abuser. We saw her on youtube.com. kill the kitty. she shouldn't even be working!! I am disgusted by her and Kate. They are both stupid women.
Robert Demarco January 07, 2014 at 04:10 PM
Of course, Murray does this after the election. What is it with this Horan woman? They keep making positions for her, retroactively, no less. And using reserves to balance the budget means the Town did not have the money to give raises. Keep voting for these people, folks. They will lead TOH to bankruptcy.
Laurie Lat January 07, 2014 at 04:19 PM
maybe Pat is Kate's lover??
Vincent January 08, 2014 at 12:23 PM
Laurie Lat: Doing a little clean up for the New Year eh Laurie?
Vincent January 08, 2014 at 12:27 PM
Laurie Lat: work they do? A woman's work is never done.
Frank T January 08, 2014 at 12:37 PM
Who cares? The dopes keep voting these crooks in.
Robert Demarco January 08, 2014 at 01:20 PM
The connected and beneficiaries keep voting the crooks in. Maybe they will appoint Kate to Fuschillo's seat, so they can appoint a new TOH Supervisor, and run him/her as an incumbent in the next election. This has been done several times by the Nassau GOP.
