Lane Closures Affect Southern State Parkway This Week

Three lanes will be closed late Monday into early Tuesday and late Tuesday into early Wednesday.

The New York State Department of Transportation (DOT) had announced nighttime lane closures Monday and Tuesday on the westbound Southern State Parkway between exits 14 and 17.

Between 10 p.m. on Monday and 5 a.m. on Tuesday, three lanes will be closed between Hempstead Avenue (exit 17) and Corona Avenue (exit 15).

Between 11 p.m. Tuesday and 6 a.m. Wednesday, three lanes will be closed between Corona Avenue (exit 15) and Fletcher Avenue (exit 14).

These closures are needed to install/remove scaffolding at three bridges over the SSP as part of the New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) bridge parapet wall replacement project.

Drivers are urged to use alternate routes such as Sunrise Highway or they will experience delays. As with most road work, this operation is weather dependent and may be canceled, postponed, or prolonged due to inclement weather.

"The New York State Department of Transportation appreciates the patience and cooperation of motorists and local residents during this important bridge safety improvement operation," they said in a release.
