Majority of Powerless Lynbrook Residents Restored

536 Lynbrook residents are still without power five days after Irene came to town.

Five days after Hurricane Irene tore through the Long Island area, 536 Lynbrook residents are still without power, according to the Long Island Power Authority’s (LIPA) outage map.

So far, LIPA has restored 1,931 customers in town who had been without power – 78 percent of the total number of residents who lost electricity from the forceful storm. As of Thursday afternoon, total current outages across Long Island are about 98,000. LIPA says that they . 

Neighbors from around town have been assisting their fellow residents during this difficult time and Lynbrook Mayor William Hendrick has taken notice.

“I'm pleased with hearing of so many neighbors who have provided assistance to others without electric power, and appreciate their patience during this ordeal,” he said. “I too had no electric and can appreciate the inconvenience we have inherited from the storm.”
