A group of this generation’s finest young men and women gathered at one of Hempstead Town’s own points of pride – the Norman J. Levy Park and Preserve in Merrick – to celebrate their achievements as Eagle Scouts and Gold Award recipients with Supervisor Kate Murray and members of the Town Board.
Murray presented each Scout in attendance with certificates and special commemorative patches signifying their rise to the highest ranks of the renowned organizations.
"These fine young men and women have gone 'above and beyond' in their pursuit of scouting’s highest ranks," Murray said. "As the most famous Boy Scout, Theodore Roosevelt once said, 'Every nation depends for its future upon the proper training and development of its youth.' Those words often ring true, as many of our Eagle Scouts and Gold Award recipients go on to become society's key leaders and contributors."
Supervisor Murray recognized the Scouts, along with Senior Councilman Anthony J. Santino, fellow Councilmembers Ed Ambrosino, Angie Cullin, James Darcy, Dorothy Goosby and Gary Hudes, as well as Receiver of Taxes Don Clavin and Town Clerk Mark Bonilla. Representing the Girl Scouts of Nassau County at the event were CEO Donna Ceravolo and President and Chief Volunteer Officer Diane McFarlane. Representing the Theodore Roosevelt Council of the Boy Scouts of America was Rough Rider District Chairman Peter Shields.
