Lost Dog Found in Malverne, Seeking Owner

This 2-year-old Cockapoo was found on Dogwood Avenue Monday.

Do you recognize this dog?

A Malverne woman is searching for the owner of a lost dog she found wandering on Dogwood Avenue Monday.

The male Cockapoo is believed to be roughly 2 years old and is not neutered. He was found wearing a blue collar.

Malvernite Elaine Geldert found the dog around 4 p.m. walking on Dogwood Avenue near Silver Street, heading in the direction of Hempstead Avenue, and posted a notice to one of the "I Love Malverne" Facebook pages. Since her house was not properly equipped to keep the dog, she had to turn it over to the in Wantagh. According to Geldert, the dog will be medically evaluated Tuesday morning and the shelter will hold him for five days to see if his owner will claim him. "If that doesn't happen, he'll go through the adoption process," she added.

If this is your dog, contact the Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter at (516) 785-5220. Or if you know who the owners, tell them to call the shelter immediately.
