Lynbrook Village Election: Hendrick, Beach Re-elected; Atkinson Elected

Three to begin four-year terms in April.

Lynbrook Mayor Bill Hendrick and Deputy Mayor Alan Beach were re-elected, and Trustee Thomas Atkinson was elected to the village board on Tuesday.

Unofficial results show Hendrick with 856 votes, and Beach and Atkinson with 841 votes each. There were no challengers on the ballot.

The trio celebrated alongside family and friends at on Atlantic Avenue Tuesday night.

"First of all, I give all the credit in the world to the four gentlemen who serve with me," said Hendrick. "I mean, they're hard-working, every one of them, and, in their own way, they have certain expertise. They make me look good."

Beach said he hopes to hit the ground running; working to revitalize the stores along the MTA property on Atlantic Avenue, renovate the Lynbrook movie theatre, and redevelop the feather factory.

"I'm thrilled with the results, of course, and the amount of people that come out and vote is a reflection, I believe, on the support that we receive from the people of our community," Beach said, "And it's showing — people are really seeing that we're working really hard, we're achieving what we want to do, and hopefully, those three big things I'm after, we'll accomplish within the next two years."

Atkinson, who was elected to his first term on the village board — he was appointed in January — said the experience of being elected was "thrilling."

"It's not something you would ever contemplate as a kid," he said. "Once you come back as an adult, you really see the village from a different perspective — a family, homeowner. Your desire, like a lot of people, is just to benefit the community. It's a thrill, it really is. It's a privilege."

Speaking about the future — terms for the three newly elected trustees begin in April — Hendrick said: "We have a lot of things planned for the next four years. We're gonna move the village well into the 21st century and get things done that have to be done, and take care of the residents. And we understand their pain, we understand the economic times, and we're gonna do our best to hold everything, spending, low, and increase the tax base by having proper construction in places where it's needed to be done."
