Lynbrook Village Saves $27K Through LIPA Program

Energy efficient upgrades lower operating costs for village of Lynbrook.

The Long Island Power Authority (LIPA), in its continuing effort to help Long Island become more energy efficient, has partnered with the Village of Lynbrook to identify and achieve significant energy efficient upgrades. This project will help the Village significantly lower operating costs and save approximately $27,000 annually.  This was made possible through LIPA’s Efficiency Long Island/Commercial Efficiency Program.

“I commend the Village of Lynbrook for their forward thinking and investment in energy efficiency. LIPA remains committed to working with our municipalities, business groups, and community leaders to communicate the vital message of energy efficiency and renewables through LIPA national recognized programs,” said LIPA Vice President of Environmental Affairs Michael J. Deering.

Lynbrook Mayor William J. Hendrick said "We have already started to recoup our investment with Johnson Control, we have reduced our power usage, and this $56,000 rebate from LIPA represents a great success after all of our efforts".

The comprehensive energy efficiency measures implemented by contractor Johnson Controls include high performance lighting and lighting controls at the Village Hall, library, recreation center, maintenance garage, storage garage and office space.

Through these improvements, it is estimated the Village of Lynbrook will save up to 148,000 kilowatt hours per year and reduce its peak electric demand by an estimated 53 kilowatts. In addition, the district also received $56,200 in LIPA rebates, which was used to help offset the cost of the efficiency upgrades.

The efficiency measures taken by the Village under this initiative will have the equivalent effect of reducing 14 cars from the road for one year or 8,715 gallons of gas not consumed for a year.

The Commercial Efficiency program is one component of LIPA’s Efficiency Long Island.  Efficiency Long Island is a customer–funded, 10-year, $924 million energy efficiency program which offers a wide array of incentives, rebates and initiatives to LIPA’s residential and commercial customers to assist them in reducing their energy usage and thereby lowering their bills.
