Lynbrook Voters Head to the Polls

Some residents concerned about future of America.

On a chilly Election Day morning, Lynbrook residents turned out at Lynbrook North Middle School to cast their votes for candidates running for state and national office. Their goal?

"To get the bums out!" exclaimed Lynbrook resident John R. O'Connor "I am so angry at these people that are running this country that I have to get here and vote … vote them out … every one of them."

Village resident Kathleen Ryder seemingly agreed.

"I came out to vote because I don't like the way the country is being run right this minute," she said. "The administration isn't doing a good job on both sides [politically], so that's why I came out."

Others explained that they were voting because they have the freedom to do so.

"It's my job as a citizen to vote," said Lynbrook resident Joan Centorrino, explaining that she was raised to be a good American citizen.

But Centorrino said she also hopes something could be done about the high taxes on Long Island. She explained that her mother, who is 91 years old, has a hard time keeping up with the bills.

"We find it a little difficult to manage," she said. "We depend on the Social Security checks … we have no car … we have a two-car garage with no car … we can't afford a car."

Resident Bob Rattner said he votes regularly. Part of the reason, he said, is to ensure the continuation of the great life that he and his wife have experienced in Lynbrook for the past 30 years.

"We always come out and vote — we think it's a shame to pass up on the opportunity when you have it," Rattner said. "It might make a difference, and you have a voice, but only if you use it."
