Malverne Ambulance Corps Creates 411-Flag Salute to September 11 Heroes

Display honors emergency workers killed during 9/11 attacks.

On the eve of the 11th anniversary of the September 11 attacks, the  took the time to place 411 small American flags outside their newly opened headquarters on Hempstead Avenue.

Each flag honors one of the 411 emergency workers who responded to the World Trade Center that fateful September morning and perished when the Twin Towers collapsed.

The village of Malverne will hold a candlelight memorial ceremony Tuesday night at 8 p.m. near the 9/11 memorial located inside , which lists the names of the four Malvernites who perished that day.

The Lynbrook community will also gather outside its September 11 tribute, located near Village Hall, at 6 p.m. to remember the 19 residents who lost their lives 11 years ago. And in West Hempstead, the Community Support Association will hold a ceremony at the entrance of where a plaque bearing the names of the 12 local men who died in the attacks stands.
