Malverne Declares Snow Emergency, Suspends Overnight Parking

Village asks residents to remove vehicles and other possible obstacles from roadways.

Malverne Mayor Patricia Norris McDonald declared a "Snow Emergency" Friday in reaction to the approaching blizzard.

The village utilized its reverse 911 system to alert residents of precautions they should take as Nemo makes its way across Long Island.

McDonald also informed residents that all overnight street parking in the village would be temporarily suspended from 9 p.m. Friday to 9 p.m. Saturday. Residents with overnight parking permits would be allowed to park in any lot in the village free of charge during the snowstorm.

Anyone with questions regarding the parking restriction can contact the Malverne Police Department at 516-599-3141 (For emergencies, call 911.)

Since Malverne's Department of Public Works will be plowing the village's roadways during the storm, McDonald asked residents to remove all obstacles from their paths. She also pointed out that it's a violation of village code to shovel snow into the roadways.

For those residents who have fire hydrants outside their homes, McDonald also asked that they help out the local fire department by removing any snow that would prevent the firefighters from accessing them in case of any emergency.

McDonald added, "Please take every precaution to ensure your safety and those of your neighbors."
