Malverne Deputy Mayor Hospitalized, Suffers Stroke

Deputy Mayor and Trustee Jim Callahan expected to make full recovery.

Malverne Deputy Mayor Jim Callahan suffered a stroke Saturday night.

The Malverne Volunteer Ambulance Corps responded to Callahan's home on the evening of April 9, attending to the 42-year-old while transferring him to Franklin General Hospital.

He was stabilized there and then transported to North Shore Hospital Sunday morning, where he is currently recovering.

Doctors said there does not appear to be any lasting physical damage and expect him to make a full recovery.

A father of four, Callahan was recently sworn in for his fourth term as village trustee by Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano. He also serves as commissioner of the County's Office of Emergency Management.

In a bulletin issued late Monday night, Trustee Michael Bailey wrote,"We ask everyone to keep Jim in their prayers for a speedy recovery."
