Malverne Students Celebrate Flag Day With Curran

Multiple schools from Malverne, Lynbrook and East Rockaway came out to celebrate Flag Day.

New York State Assemblyman Brian Curran (Lynbrook - 14th AD) recently honored the kindergarten through fifth-grade winners and honorable mentions of the annual essay and poster contest on "What the American Flag Means to You," as a commemoration of Flag Day.

Each winner at the June 10 event received a New York State citation, as well as an American flag.

"We had a wonderful turnout this Sunday for Malverne, Lynbrook and East Rockaway students to participate in a competition honoring the most recognized symbol in the world, the American flag," Curran said. "These boys and girls showed a true understanding and dedication to the tenets and values which our flag represents."

“I hope these students saw how much their presentations meant to the community. Parents, veterans and school personnel attended the event to see what the American flag meant to these gifted students. If this Flag Day event was any indication of the respect our schoolchildren have for the American Dream, then the United States of America will be in good hands for generations to come,” said Curran.
