Nassau Parks Closed Due to Hurricane

Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano has announced the cancellation of all Nassau County Parks events and the closing of all Nassau County Parks effective 10 p.m. Friday through Monday, Aug. 29.

Mangano has also announced the closure of all Nassau County Senior Citizen Centers beginning Friday, Aug. 26, through Monday, Aug. 29, due to Hurricane Irene, at the request of the Nassau County Office of Emergency Management.

Sept. 11 Exhibit to Open at Firefighter's Museum

The Nassau County Firefighters Museum & Education Center will open its newest exhibit - Lives of Service: Celebrating the Heroes of Sept. 11, at an Annual Badge of Courage Gala on Friday, Sept. 9, with the Memorial Service beginning at 6 p.m.

The museum will be open to the public free of charge on Saturday, Sept. 10 and Sunday, Sept. 11. 9/11 Blood Drives Announced

With the 10th Anniversary of 9/11 quickly approaching, WBAB, BLI, Long Island Blood Services and Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano are encouraging Long Islanders to commemorate the anniversary by “Giving Life for Lives Lost” and donating blood in honor and remembrance of the thousands of men, women and children affected by the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. Each pint of blood donated can potentially save the lives of three people through the use of blood and blood products.

You can give blood to honor the memory of those lost on 9/11 from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. (unless specified otherwise) at the following locations throughout Nassau and Suffolk Counties:
