UPDATE: Weather Won't Cancel Malverne, West Hempstead Parades

UPDATE: Both local parades are still on for today. The weather is expected to hold out in time for both events, but thunderstorms are predicted later today.

On May 30, residents in Malverne and West Hempstead will honor the men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice for their country by marching, waving flags and gathering as a community.

Here's a guide to the parades that will take place that day in the neighborhood, complete with maps of the routes they will take.

West Hempstead Memorial Day Parade

Start Time: 10 a.m.

Route: The parade will begin at on Hempstead Avenue and head east to Roosevelt Boulevard. It will turn left onto Roosevelt and head to , where a ceremony lasting approximately one hour will be held to honor all fallen veterans. The day's events will be hosted by the American Legion Post 1087 and the West Hempstead Community Support and Civic Association. (See map above.)

Malverne

Start Time: 11 a.m.

Route: Memorial Day in Malverne will begin at the gazebo at (next to LIRR station) where a ceremony will be held to pay tribute to veterans who have perished. A parade will follow immediately after as marchers head west on Church Street to Hempstead Avenue. They will proceed north on Hempstead Avenue to Broadway, then turn right on Franklin Avenue. The parade will continue down Franklin Avenue and then make a left onto Ackley Avenue, heading south to Home Street. They will perform a salute atin Westwood and then proceed North on Foster Avenue to Franklin, east to Rider Avenue and then turn back onto Hempstead Avenue. It will end when it returns to Church Street.
