POLL: Banning Cell Phone Use While Driving

National Transportation Safety Board says all cell phone use should be banned.

The National Transportation Safety Board recommended Tuesday that a nationwide ban on all cellphone use by drivers be put into place.

According to the New York Times, the recommendation from the federal agency comes after "decade of investigations into distraction-related accidents."

The ban, if made into law, would not only ban texting and talking, but also hands-free devices. According to the story in the Times:

As part of its recommendation, the N.T.S.B. is urging states to ban drivers from using hands-free devices, including wireless headsets. No state now outlaws such activity, but the board said that drivers faced serious risks from talking on wireless headsets, just as they do by taking a hand off the wheel to hold a phone to their ear.

New York is already one of nine states that has a handheld ban on cell phones, but the new recommendation would completely erase any and all cell phone use while driving.
