Question of the Day: Billing Non-Village Residents For Ambulance Service?

Sound off on this local hot topic.

The Malverne Volunteer Ambulance Corps is the focus of a public work session planned for Thursday night at Village Hall.

One of the issues that will most likely be discussed is whether MVAC should bill residents who live outside of Malverne when they use their services. This has been at the heart of between the village board and representatives for MVAC.

Unlike the Malverne Volunteer Fire Department, which is an entity of the village, MVAC is a contracted service, which is paid for with village taxes. However, a portion of the service calls that MVAC responds to are from homes outside the borders of the village - Malverne Park and northern Lynbrook - and these residents do not pay village taxes.
