Peter King Remembers Ed Koch

Congressman remembers former mayor a "friend" and "advisor."

Rep. Peter King, R-Seaford, remembered former New York City Mayor Ed Koch as "friend" and trusted "advisor."

The three-term former mayor died early Friday morning of congestive heart failure. He was 88.

"I am terribly saddened by the passing of Mayor Ed Koch," King said in a statement. "Ed Koch was a true friend and trusted advisor."

The Congressman concluded by saying that Koch, "personified the spirit of New York. New York’s Mayor For Life is now New York’s Mayor for eternity. May he Rest in Peace."

King was an admirer of Koch, a Democrat, and was one of those who was in attendance when the city re-named the 59th Street Bridge for the former Mayor.

They also joined in endorsing Republican Rep. Bob Turner of Queens when he won a special election to replace Rep. Anthony Weiner.

I agree, Mr. King. Mayor Koch always said he was "a liberal with sanity." Oh, how I wish ALL our politicians would have more sanity. I admire you, sir... and, I do hope that you will continue to be a "republican with sanity." We need to have more of our politicians voting for what is best for their constituents and OUR COUNTRY--not for what is best for their party. We need our politicians to cross party lines more often, for commonsense leadership in these notorious times for our country -- and that goes for DEMOCRATS and Republicans!
