Councilman Santino will be joined by the Town of Hempstead Building Department, which will be on hand to answer questions and explain how the town has expedited its permitting process to help residents repair their homes.

This includes waiving building permit fees for “in-kind” reconstruction (for residents of unincorporated areas) and replacement of Sandy-damaged homes, as well as eliminating a town requirement that homeowners obtain a variance prior to increasing their home’s foundation height to comply with FEMA flood height guidelines. Also, permit fees are waived for homeowners using a temporary trailer during construction.
