FEMA Forces Homeowners to Buy Unneeded Insurance

The Federal Emergency Management Agency had a spotlight put on faulty flood maps that are costly some homeowners dearly. According to a report by NBC Today, tens of thousands of people across the nation were put in flood zones due to government errors that have forced homeowners to pay thousands of dollars for unnecessary insurance. Click here for more.

School Reopens After 10 Years Closed

Prospect School in Hempstead had been previously closed for more than 10 years due to many safety, health and structural hazards. The newly refurbished school, which opened its doors on Monday, is being used as a district-wide kindergarten center. The opening of the Prospect School will allow the district to move students out of portable classrooms and help alleviate overcrowding concerns.

Free Property Tax Forums

Hempstead Town will host a series of Property Taxpayer Checkup Forums at local libraries. Receiver of Taxes Donald Clavin will discuss important issues such as assessment challenges, tax exemptions, tax discounts, property tax payment dates and convenient tax payment options. Click here for more.
