VIDEO: Malverne Plants Life to Honor Loss, Legacy

The late Kathy Sapuppo of Malverne is memorialized through Arbor Day tree planting.

New life was planted in Malverne Saturday morning to honor one that the community recently lost.

Local leaders, neighbors and loved ones of the late Kathy Sapuppo gathered outside the Malverne Public Library where a tree was planted to pay tribute to her life and legacy.

Many kind words were spoken of Sapuppo, an active community member who devoted much of her time on Malverne's Zoning Board to preserving the natural beauty of the village, especially its trees.

The ceremony was a chance for the community to both celebrate Arbor Day and to memorialize Sapuppo, who died recently at the age of 47.

Sappupo's husband Carmelo, along with their teenage son Max, watered the white oak sapling in her honor.
