VIDEO: WTC Steel Arrives in Malverne

Village officials and volunteer firefighters retrieve 9/11 artifact from Randall's Island.

A fragment of the fallen World Trade Center arrived in Malverne Friday afternoon aboard a Malverne Fire Department pick-up truck.

Village officials and volunteer firefighters travelled to Randall's Island on June 8 to retrieve the section of steel from a collection of debris the FDNY recovered from Ground Zero.

Working with FDNY Chief Salvatore Cassano's office, Malverne was able to secure a 3-foot piece of WTC steel.  It will be stored in the Malverne fire house until village officials find a permanent home for this tangible reminder of the tragedy of 9/11.
