Wantagh-Seaford Residents React to Suozzi County Executive Run

Former Nassau County Executive announces candidacy, will run in a Democratic primary in November.

Former Nassau County Executive Tom Suozzi wants his old job back.

Suozzi, who served as Nassau County Executive from 2002-2010, announced Wednesday morning on his new campaign website that he will once again run for Nassau’s top post. Suozzi ran for a third term in 2009 but lost a close election to current Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano. The former mayor of Glen Cove also ran for New York Governor in 2006 but lost a Democratic primary to Eliot Spitzer.

Suozzi, 50, in his statement pledged to restore fiscal stability, end “irresponsible borrowing and skyrocketing debt,” create jobs and reduce crime in Nassau.
Suozzi will officially announce his candidacy at a noon press conference with Nassau County Democratic Chairman Jay Jacobs in Mineola.

Suozzi also released a video on his website that discusses his plan to make Nassau County an “ideal suburb.”

Suozzi will face off in a Democratic primary this September for the right to face Mangano this November, most likely against Democrat Adam Haber, a Roslyn school board member. North Hempstead Town Supervisor Jon Kaiman has also established a campaign committee to explore a run for Nassau County executive. Nassau County Legis. Dave Denenberg, D-Merrick, has said he would run for county executive if Suozzi did not.

Local residents had mixed reactions on the Wantagh-Seaford Patch Facebook page on Suozzi's announcement.

Stella Michailides Mallios wrote, "Been there, done that."

Michael Brindisi said, "No thanks, but anyone is better than this Mangano clown."

Krystina Torregrossa said in her comments, "I believe he made this decision because everyone is tired of Mangano so it seems like a sure thing."

What do you think of Tom Suozzi running again for county executive? Tell us in the comments below.

Unfortunately Joe, the mission does involve politics and government. They are the ones that are taking money away from our animals and robbing the tax payers. You would be fooling yourself if you didn't think that Ed Mangano wasn't well aware of what Murray is doing. Everyone is and everyone is allowing her to get away with it and look the other way! It's okay Joe, I'm immune to criticism and insults from years of it from the Town Officials but if I'm the crazy one, why does Kate Murray have a JUDGMENT AGAINST HER!!! But yes, let's stick to the issues - Ed Mangano has got to go!!!!! Enough is enough - Nassau County is a disaster!

If Mangano was Captain of the Carnival Triumph, he would tell the passengers that he is not raising taxes.

He's just what Nassau doesn't need. Ok, Gullotta put us in this mess but it's 2013. Every major issue plaguing the current administration can be linked back to Souzzi's. So, what did he really do for the the County? Instead of having a more accurate picture of Washington's crossing, what someone should have done is get a more accurate picture of just how he "balanced the budget". I believe issues at the jail in 2009, really big issues over at DPW with Cedar Creek and Bay Park sewage plants in 2010, 2011, 2012 ... and the pool at Eisenhower Park ... they're perfect examples of how he actually "balanced the budget". We simply do not need our own singing ... "Three Tenures"

Mangano and Suozzi need to be held accountable and an investigation of this mess needs to take place. If you are concerned about taxes and the Nassau County Budget read on; http://www.nassaucountyny.gov/agencies/Comptroller/documents/AuditofHousingandCommunityDevelopment_11_15_12.pdf
