7th West Nile Case Confirmed in Nassau

Nassau officials confirmed a seventh human case of West Nile Virus in 2013 on Thursday. A woman from the Town of Hempstead was confirmed to have West Nile virus, which was contracted during a warm spell in October, according to the Nassau County Department of Health. Click here for more.

Police: Phone Scams on the Rise

Nassau County Police Inspector John Berry warned residents of phone scams, which have been on the rise lately, at Tuesday night's Levittown property owners meeting. One scam includes the caller telling you that they are from the IRS and you owe back taxes. Click here for more.

Deadline for Basic STAR Property Tax Exemption Nears

All homeowners receiving a Basic STAR property tax exemption must register by Dec. 31, 2013 with the New York State Tax Department to receive the exemption in 2014 and thereafter. The registration requirement is not satisfied by the homeowner’s original application to the Nassau County Assessor’s Office.
