Malverne's Water Issues

I was at a party last night and everyone was complaining about the brown water and the smelly water. I would like to know why the mayor and the board can not do anything about this issue...it effects all Malverne Residents.

The Village just paid out over $500,000 to the water company over a lawsuit they had against the village.

How long do we have to put up with this water? Could anyone tell me why we can't we get a civil suit against them? Where do we go from here?

Robert, before you give your historical report to the board next month why don't you ask them about this issue? This is the first I am hearing about this lawsuit and I am sure all the residents would like to know why we paid out $5000,000 for brown water!

Robert are you talking a lawsuit or a tax cert settlement?

Hope this helps. It's the response from LIAW as of 10 AM, 1/14/13: I will issue flushes for each of the streets mentioned in the posts. Plant #8 has been running 24/7 with excellent iron removal results. Plant #15 construction in on schedule and should be operational sometime this summer. The water main replacements which we identified last fall will begin during the spring of this year, with completion by the summer. If anyone wishes to see the progress to date; please view and join: https://www.facebook.com/groups/brownwater/ Tom

Obviously, you must run for Village Trustee.

My water has been crystal clear for well over a year now. I think it has much to do with a more frequent schedule of flushing the hydrants. That being said last week I had brow water for the first time in a long while. Could it be weather related or has LIAW minimized their schedule again. I haven't seen them in my neighborhood in a while.

The water is horrible. I tried to run a bath for my kids and it looked like I threw a box of teabags into the tub and let them sit there. How unfair is this?? We are washing our clothes, dishes and children in this filth. I run the clothes washer and it stinks to high heaven not to mention the ejected water is dark brown also, even when doing a "white wash". If I was a potential home buyer I would run!! I invite all of the people at LIAW who keep telling us this water is safe to come over to my house and soak in a nice hot bath and while they are here they can wash their dishes on which they will serve the family meals.

The water has been horrible since 1964 when I moved into my home. I had a chemist from the water co. Come to my home and he said we had high iron content which causes dysentery. Isn't that special. I have ruined clothes with the rust problem. I wonder what drinking this water causes to the body. We pay an excessive amount of money for this horrible water. Where is the Public Service Commission now. It is time for the ratepayers to rebel and get this water co. out of our communities. We need good water and we haven't ever had it.

Why are you complaining on Patch? This is clearly an issue to be addressed with Village Hall. The Board of Trustees has known about the issue for years with limited success. One wonders if the major litigation between the Village Board and the water company had any adverse impact. You should drop off samples of dirty water at Village Hall every day untill the Village government gets serious about the problem. You deserve at least as much attention as Malverne Mel.

I've noticed a dramatic change since we first moved here...particularly in the last 2 years. The water is consistenly rusty causing bathtubs, sinks toilets to look dirty and smell. I've tried cleaners, deodorizes and clean the toilet bowl daily with minimal success. the water smells and certainly does not make you feel clean using it.

I have noticed that my hot water has a particular "Sink" to it lately........it's long been Brown and Thick!!!

No edit function on my last reply: the word is "STINK".
