Runners Raise Education Funds at Malverne Race

Photos and results for the 7th Annual Malverne Rotary 5K.

Sunday's sunny but cool weather created perfect conditions for the nearly 100 runners and walkers who participated in the 7th Annual Malverne Rotary 5K.

They raced 3.1 miles through Malverne, Lynbrook and Lakeview - three communities the school district serves - to raise funds for the Malverne Educational and Fitness Foundation.

The participants included several Malverne faculty members, administrators, Superintendent James Hunderfund, members of the PTA and an Olympic champion. Derrick Adkins, a Malverne High School alum who won a gold medal in 1996 at the games in Atlanta, ran the course, as he does every year.

The race ended at Malverne High School, where a free health fair was held in conjunction with North Shore LIJ Franklin Hospital. A new addition to the annual event, the fair featured local health professionals sharing their expertise with residents on such topics as chiropractic work, acupuncture, nutrition, and overall health and wellness.
