Brita Leaves West Hempstead School Board, New Leaders Selected

Changes were announced at Tuesday's Board of Education meeting as the new president and V.P. were named and one trustee announced his departure.

Anthony Brita will no longer serve on the West Hempstead Board of Education. The trustee resigned on June 30.

The announcement was made at the July 12 reorganization meeting, during which the board also selected its new president, Walter Ejnes, and vice president, James Mariano. Ejnes, the past vice president, takes over for Pamela Lotito, who will continue to serve as a trustee.

In a statement released by the district following the meeting, Ejnes praised Mr. Brita for his service on the West Hempstead Board of Education, saying "I would like to thank Tony for his hard work and dedication to the district during his four years as a board member. We all wish him well in his future endeavors."

The board has not decided if it will fill Brita's now vacant seat before the elections are held in May.

"The Board of Education is presently considering its options in terms of the vacant seat and expects to determine a course of action in the very near future," read the statement.
