Despite Flu, V.S. North Bowling Wins Two

Although Valley Stream North's boys bowling team was swept, it's girls squad beat South despite missing several players.

Valley Stream North High School's bowling squads returned from the winter break a bit short handed on Tuesday night as they took on a tough opponent, Valley Stream South.

Both the boys and girls varsity teams took to the lanes on Dec. 4 at Rockville Centre Lanes to face the top ranked South squad although the flu had already delivered a strike against the Lady Spartans.

"I had half of my girls not here," North's Girls Head Coach Jeanette Paolillo said. "They were sick with the flu."

Using alternates and promoting a JV player, Kristen Montana, to the third spot, the Lady Spartans persevered though and took Games 1 and 2 and Total Wood to secure themselves a second place spot in the current standings. Game 3 went to South. Nicole Kearns and anchor Maria Lucente bowled exceptionally well in Game 1 with a 178 and 158 respectively, and Alexa Taormina and Montana gave consistent performances throughout the night.

Coach's Corner: "It went well. It was very competitive," Paolillo said. "By the third game they were tired though."
