The Malverne School District will only be running its summer recreation program this year if it can get enough residents to sign-up and pay tuition to make it self-sustaining.
The district will decide whether or not the program will take place will be based upon registration. The program will be offered to District 12 residents only for students currently in Grades K-5. The program will run Monday-Friday from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. through July and August and will feature sports, arts and crafts, computer use, field trips and much more.
To run a self-sustaining summer recreation program, the Malverne School District requires a minimum participation of 100 students at a cost of $1,108 per student. Please note that as the student participation rate increases, the final per-student cost decreases. For example, if 120 students register, the cost would be $923 per student, for 130 students it would be $852, and for 140 it would cost $791, etc.
If less than 100 students apply, there will be no 2012 summer recreation program. This fee is in addition to the cost of any weekly trips (the cost for trips last summer was $83, which included a camp t-shirt).
Registration for the program will take place on Monday, May 7 from noon-7 p.m. in the board room of the Administration Building, located at 301 Wicks Lane, Malverne. If you wish to have your child participate, please come to complete an application and submit a $500 deposit. The deposit will be refunded if there are not enough students to run the program.
