Funeral Services for Lynbrook's Beloved Schools Chief

Community continues to mourn passing of Dr. Santo Barbarino.

Since learning of the of Dr. Santo Barbarino, Lynbrook's beloved schools chief, his friends, family, neighbors, colleagues, and both former and current students have been mourning privately. their shock, sadness and admiration for Dr. B, as he was affectionately called by many.

But starting tomorrow, those who knew and loved Dr. Barbarino will come together to comfort one another, pay their respects and remember his smile, his passion for helping his community, and the indelible mark he made on Lynbrook and beyond.

A wake will be held Wednesday, Aug. 29, from 4:30 p.m. to 9 p.m., and Thursday, Aug. 30, from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m., at in Lynbrook.

A funeral Mass will take place on Friday, Aug. 31, at 10:45 a.m. at in East Rockaway, followed by interment at St. John's Cemetery in Middle Village.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with Dr. Barbarino’s family and friends during this very difficult and sad time,” Lynbrook Board of Education President Catherine Papandrew said in a statement released by the district early Tuesday. “Dr. Barbarino was someone who always put our children first. The success and well being of our students was always his number one priority. As the educational leader of our school district, he was a pleasure to work with. He was admired by all who knew him and served as a role model for our staff and our students.”
