Herber Athletes Volunteer at Long Island Marathon

Track team provides hydration for runners in 26.2 mile race.

The track team didn't compete in the Long Island Marathon this weekend, but instead, the young athletes laced up their sneakers and volunteered their time to keep the runners hydrated.

They boarded a bus at 6:15 a.m. Sunday - a feat for any young person - and were ready to deliver drinks at the first water stop of the 26.2 mile course.

This was the first time the team volunteered at the Long Island Marathon.

"It was an inspiring event for our young runners to see, and gave them exposure to the wonderful wider community of runners," said Eileen Duffy, who coaches the team along with Rachel Trevor.
