High Honors for Lynbrook Student

Senior Daniel Kramer named a National Merit Commended Student.

Daniel Kramer, a senior at Lynbrook High School, has been named a Commended Student in the National Merit Scholarship Program.

He ranked among the top 34,000 of the 1.5 million students around the country who entered the competition by taking the National Merit Scholarship Corporation's Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test, better known as the PSAT. Although Commended Students do not qualify to continue in the competition for National Merit Scholarships, they become candidates for a number of special scholarships sponsored by corporations and businesses.

Kramer is Editor-in-Chief of his school's award-winning newspaper, Horizon,
and has won individual awards from the Long Island Press Association and Newsday. An AP Scholar, Danny is also president of the National Honor Society. Active in his school's Science Research Program, he has won awards from ExploraVision and the Long Island Science Congress.

This summer he worked at the Rockefeller Institute to prepare for the INTEL Science Talent Search. He also entered a project in the Siemens Competition for Math, Science and Technology. In June of 2010, Danny became a finalist in the 2010 National History Day competition. A member of the Leadership Club, he attended the 2009 National Youth Leadership Forum on Medicine. Outside of school, he is a volunteer at SIBS Place, a center that provides support to the siblings of terminally ill children.
